Cross Platform Links: (Linux, Mac OS X and Windows)
BitRock Installer
A bit expensive, but it's quite a feature rich software installer that supports a large selection of systems.
PureBasic
A cross platform basic that is rock solid and produces seriously small executables. PureBasic is one of my favorites.
BlitzMax
A cross platform basic for developing games. But if you purchase the module "BlitzGUI", you can turn it into a cross platform basic for GUI development. BlitzMax is also one of my favorites.
REALbasic
A bit pricey if you want cross platform, but it's similarities to VB makes it a viable development tool for cross platform development projects.
sdlBasic
This one is a freebie. It's intended for cross platform game development using the SDL libraries.
wxBasic Programming Language
Another freebie. Not too bad for cross platform, but requires the wx libraries to be installed on whatever os you'll be running the resulting apps on.
Liberty Basic
A soon to be cross platform basic. LB has been around for a while now, but only for Windows. Sometime in 2006, or maybe early 2007, a Linux and Mac OS X
version will be available.
REBOL
This one is a unique one for sure. It's kind of like basic, with some structuring like a C, but quite easy to use. It's not your typical setup though,
as it's something like java, but far less bulky, but the intention of having the runtime on the users system, and they can just run the program from either
online or locally. Yeah, something like that. ;-) Ahhh, just check it out and figure it out yourself. ;-)
Runtime Revolution Ltd
Purveyors of Revolution and DreamCard. Those familiar with MetaCard and similar languages will feel right at home. Expensive but worth it if you need
a robust, solid cross platform language.

A Linux based basic language. If you're a VB programmer then jumping to Linux using Gambas should be your move.

Ubuntu Linux
This Linux distribution is quickly becoming popular. If you're new to Linux, I'd recommend Ubuntu. This is the Linux I use on one of my PC's, but also on the PC's of my kids.
MEPIS Linux
Another good Linux distro for newbies to get their toes wet with.
Fedora Linux
Formerly known as RedHat Linux, it's a long running distro, but I found it to be a bit too bloated for my liking.
OpenSUSE Linux
Haven't tried it, but have been told that it's good for newbies also.

CocoaBasic
An Object Oriented basic similar to REALBasic, but not completely compatible. CocoaBasic is now open source.
FutureBASIC
Here we go again with referencing REALBasic... FutureBASIC is touted as being the foremost alternative to REALBasic, but of course, like CocoaBasic, it's Mac only. FutureBASIC does have the advantage of still being able to compile for older Mac platforms, even 68K.
Omikron Basic
Wait! Wait! This one doesn't make any comparison or reference to REALBasic! ;-) Omikron Basic has been around and in use for quite a long time and continues to grow and develop. An all purpose basic capable of doing just about anything you want, but it also touts an extensive mathmatics library aimed at scientist and engineers.

Shell Extension City
Should have been called "Geek Extension City". Not really for the average user, more for users just above average to full blown geeks. This site lists a healthy offering of software that is more system related.

Visual DialogScript
One of the best scripting languages for Window that I've ever had the pleasure of using. They do have a free version if you want to get your feet wet. :-)
Vladonai Software
A relatively new and young software upstart which recently released a program called "AllMyNotes" which I am very happy about. A nice and clean but with just the right balance of features Notes program. Check it out for yourself, free version available.
